Il primo è Oscar Juarez, 54 anni, professore di educazione fisica, vive a Brooklyn. «Mi ha ospitata i miei primi giorni a New York. Era nuovo sulla piattaforma di Warmshowers. Lui non aveva nessuna recensione, ancora. E mi sono presa il rischio decidendo comunque di rimanere da lui. Ascolto sempre il mio gut feeling davanti a cose che non conosco perché non posso basarmi su altro. E il gut feeling non sbaglia mai. Mi ha subito dato l’impressione di essere un buon host. A NY abbiamo pedalato tra le vie trafficate di Manhattan, di notte, e poi l’ho salutato per cominciare l’avventura americana. Qualche settimana fa mi dice che vorrebbe provare la sua prima esperienza di cicloturismo e raggiungermi a Cleveland per poi andare a Washington. Ci aveva già provato l’anno scorso, da NY. Ma a causa del freddo non è mai arrivato a destinazione. Io sono abituata a viaggiare da sola, ma voglio provare a condividere un po’ di pedalata. Perché per me è una vittoria mettere in sella quante più persone possibili».

In NY, we cycled through the bustling streets of Manhattan at night, and then I bid him farewell to begin my American adventure. A few weeks ago, he tells me that he would like to try his first bike touring experience and join me in Cleveland before heading to Washington. He had already attempted it last year from NY, but due to the cold, he never reached his destination. I’m used to traveling alone, but I want to try sharing a bit of the journey. Because for me, getting as many people as possible on the saddle is a victory».
